Postpartum Midwife

Carrie Sparrevohn Ham is a traditionally-trained midwife who has served birthing families for nearly 40 years. She holds a BS in Anthropology from the University of California at Riverside and is one of the first licensed midwives in California. She held a seat on and was a member of the Midwifery Advisory Council (MAC) to the Medical Board of California from the beginning of the MACs inception in 2007. She held the position of MAC Board Chair for most of the 11 years she served. Carrie is also a past board member and previous Chair of the California Association of Midwives (now California Association of Licensed Midwives). Prior to licensure Carrie practiced in women’s homes, serving several hundred women. Since she became licensed in 1997, Carrie has cared for many thousands of women in clinics and physicians’ offices.

Carrie is a mother of 7 and grandmother of 9, and in her spare time is a shepherdess on the farm she shares with her sweetheart, presiding over a flock of sheep, a herd of goats, two dogs, and four cats.
