I am a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist. My training began as a young child. Having grown up in a medical family in the Sacramento Area, medicine as it was meant to be practiced was second nature to me. I grew up with a surgeon, my father, as a role model and watched a healer who sincerely cared for his patients and who individualized care, doing what they needed, now what was convenient for him. After receiving my BS from the University of Notre Dame du Lac in Indiana, an MD from Howard University in Washington D.C., I fortunately entered residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Training in this field, I was fortunate to be in a program with a Nurse Midwifery program as well. I developed relationships not only with my physician colleagues, but also with the CNM students and instructors and quickly noticed the difference in the two styles of practice. I questioned why there should be this difference, and decided there should not. EVERY woman deserves compassionate, individualized, holistic care.
This has been my main focus since beginning private practice in 1986. Since then, my goal has been to bring personalized care to women in the Greater Sacramento area. I am dedicated to delivering quality obstetric and women’s health care in a warm and supporting environment, taking into account the physical, emotional and social needs of each woman. My priorities have been to provide patient support, education, and counseling and to encourage women as they take responsibility for their health. Assisting women both in the hospital and at home has been a rich experience. I am excited to be able to further expand that goal in an even greater capacity assisting even more women take charge of their birth experience.
In my free time, I may be playing with chickens or dogs, crocheting, gardening, enjoying the outdoors or quilting. I also enjoy being able to serve as a missionary on a volunteer basis, and have done so in many places both in the US and outside, such as Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, most recently this past year with my new groom, Bob Wold, DDS. We have served twice in Honduras and at AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya.
